We want to share a little about the places we stay at, mainly as a record for the kids and to remind us of the people we meet along the way but hopefully it will also be helpful to others exploring the same areas.

Beaucette Marina is our home port, the port that we will push off from when it's time to start our adventure and I hope that's not too far away.

Now Beaucette Marina is unique. It is located at the very northern tip of Guernsey, Channel Islands. It was an old Quarry, however in the late 60s the Royal Engineers came over and blew a hole in the side of the cliff as a training exercise, opening it up to the sea creating a tidal Marina.

The Marina has a restaurant on site and also a campsite and cute shepherd's huts. The restaurant is fantastic, the food is incredible and the service, I have to say is top-notch but that's partly because I work behind the bar. The surroundings are idyllic and a special place to be in.

I actually grew up just around the corner from here but I didn't come here that much. It was somewhere to walk the dog, I didn't think much of it apart from that. However, since we've been living here we’ve found that there's a vibrant community here, there are people that have lived here for over 20 years. It's great, we've just kind of been swept up in it all and everyone's taken us in and made it feel like home. We've been here for about six months now, six months longer than I wanted, but it's a great place to prepare for our trip and call our home port.

If you're ever passing, radio in on channel 80 or phone to give them heads up, there's some mooring buoys just outside the entrance if you arrive at low tide. There's a pretty strong current washing across the mouth of the entrance so pick your tides right but if you come in here it's fantastic I definitely suggest booking in at the restaurant and having a slap up meal as you can see from the pictures the setting is just lovely.
