We sailed from Saint Cast to Port-Saint-Quay-Portrieux in the fog, stayed for a night, then backtracked to Binic. It’s a tidal marina and only open at certain times of the day. We knew we had to stop for a while (lots of boring admin/maintenance jobs), so we decided to backtrack to Binic (3.7 NM).
The marina was cheaper and looked like it was more our scene than Port-Saint-Quay-Portrieux, and boy were we glad we did! It was a bit of a gamble being so tidal, but totally worth it. We had a 35-minute window that day to enter. Although narrow, it was an easy entrance, and staff were super helpful getting everyone in and docked safely.
Binic is such a lovely place to visit, especially given the heat over the last few days! We had two nice swimming beaches on either side of the marina and a tidal pool (similar to bathing pools back home) right next to us! Our favorite was the beach to the north; access was through an opening in the cliff wall. The sand was so hot you had to tiptoe over it to make it to the sea, and at high tide, there was a carpet of soft green seaweed just as you entered the sea, which when gathered into a ball and thrown was like having a snowball fight in reverse. In between swimming, we ate churros, rode the big wheel, and attended a local beach fire.
The supermarket, although not huge, did sell an acceptable amount of French biscuits and lactose-free milk! Happy Captain... and crew, as we are living in very close quarters 💨
